Manchester United switch hotels and prepare at ancient ex-training ground ahead of showdown with Manchester City

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has completely changed Manchester United’s preparations for the visit of fierce rivals Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils have stayed at a different hotel and reverted back to an ancient ex-training ground in the build up to the clash.

United can inadvertently gift Liverpool the title with victory over their neighbours tonight, but they are also desperate for a win themselves, after six defeats in their last eight games have left them scrambling for the top four.

Solskjaer is not risking any hiccups, opting for the Hilton Hotel on Deansgate rather than the traditionally-used Lowry Hotel, in order to avoid roadworks.

United arrived late to their Champions League group match against Valencia earlier this season due to midweek traffic.

And from the Hilton, Solskjer took his team back to his iconic former training ground, The Cliff, for a light training session on Wednesday.

Reports suggest the Norwegian is keen to give his players a ‘reality check’ and a shot of United’s rich history.

United moved to their current base, Carrington, in 2002 after Sir Alex decided The Cliff was not good enough for a top Premier League club.

Speaking ahead of the Manchester derby, Solskjaer said: â€Å“A big, big part of being a Man United player is that you can deal with the pressure and be a leader.

â€Å“The proof is on the pitch. It’s got to be happening on the pitch. We’ve had some good meetings.

â€Å“There have been some words said — the truth of course — and there are players there that stand up and show they want to help take this club forward.”
