Demba Ba has revealed he does not feel sorry for Steven Gerrard after the former Liverpool captain’s infamous slip five years ago.
The Chelsea striker was the beneficiary of Gerrard’s misfortune in front of the Kop back in 2014 as he collected the ball and raced in to score.
Defeat for the Reds marked the beginning of the end of their Premier League title challenge as Manchester City clawed back a five-point deficit to lift the trophy.
And Ba, who effectively ended Gerrard’s personal quest to end Liverpool’s 24-year title drought, admits he has no sympathy for the Rangers boss.
â€Å“I didn’t feel sorry for him,” the Basaksehir striker told The Sun. “I’m not a Steven Gerrard supporter. I’m not a Liverpool supporter.
â€Å“I’m not a Man City supporter or happy that they won the league.
â€Å“It’s all part of the game. It’s the same as Crystal Palace last year when they were safe and had nothing to play for, they went and played at Stoke and sent them down by winning. You go and do your job, you go to win.â€
The Blues were out of the title race themselves after a shock defeat to Sunderland. But Jose Mourinho’s team were fighting for a place in the Champions League Final.
Mourinho was angered in the build-up to the game the Liverpool game was sandwiched in between the semi-final ties with Atletico Madrid – bemoaning broadcasters for not switching the date.
As a result, the Portuguese rested several key men for the game at Anfield so Mohamed Salah, Tamas Kalas and Ba all started. A fact the Senegalese forward is all too happy to remind Reds fans.
Ba said: â€Å“I would say he put the reserve team out. A lot of the players that started that day were not in the starting XI every week.
â€Å“So we went out like this, but he still expected us to win.
â€Å“He was very motivated to win that game. He was loud in the dressing room.
â€Å“It was not him telling us how important it was to win, he was saying, ‘we came here to win, we’re not going to give up’ and was giving us the motivation.â€

Following the shock 2-0 defeat, Gerrard tried to rally his troops to ensure the title race remained close. But a spectacular collapse at Crystal Palace (nicknamed ‘Crystanbul’) meant it was Manuel Pellegrini and not Brendan Rodgers who lifted the Premier League trophy.
And fot Ba, his contribution did not mean a lot and was just another day in the life of a footballer.
â€Å“Not really. For them, obviously it was. But not for us. If they won that game they would have won the league.â€
