The merry-go-round of the transfer window is underway yet again with Premier League sides ready to get their chequebooks out.
A host of mega-money deals are already in the pipeline for the 2019 summer market and spending is expected to go through the roof once more.
Last summer saw the top-flight’s best go big with a string of high-profile deals being complete.
Some have proven their price-tag were well worth it while a few have completely flattered to deceive.
Here are the top ten priciest players of the 2018 transfer window and how they’ve faired this season.
LATEST TRANSFER NEWS
10). Yerry Mina (Barcelona to Everton) – £28m
Following a fine World Cup with Colombia, Mina moved to Goodison Park for big money.
He impressed when fit but missed so much of the season, that his arrival has been tinged with disappointment. Everton will hope for big things from him next term.
9). Felipe Anderson (Lazio to West Ham) – £35m
The Hammers’ record signing and one of their main highlights this season.
The Brazilian contributed ten goals and four assists and created a host of other chances to endear himself to the West Ham faithful.
8). Richarlison (Watford to Everton) – £38m
A haul of 14 goals made him Everton’s top scorer.
While some raised eyebrows over his price-tag, the 22-year-old proved doubters wrong and will now be looking to kick on after the summer break.
7). Fabinho (Monaco to Liverpool) – £40m
Took a long while to acclimatise to his new club but became a key figure of their midfield after Christmas.
Could yet crown a fine debut season in England with a Champions League winners medal.
6). Jorginho (Napoli to Chelsea) – £50m
His arrival saw N’Golo Kante’s role changed much to the bemusement of many.
An undoubtedly classy player but a touch underwhelming this season. Guiding the Blues to Europe League glory can certainly change that.
5). Fred (Shakhtar Donetsk to Manchester United) – £52m
Big money but a big flop.
The Brazilian made only 13 Premier League starts and notched just one goal as United suffered their turbulent season. Will he survive their summer cull?
4). Naby Keita (RB Leipzig to Liverpool) – £54m
Keita signed a year earlier for the Reds and his long-awaited arrival ended up be somewhat disappointing.
A mix of injuries and poor form saw him in and out of Jurgen Klopp’s side and he’ll be hoping for a vast improvement next term.
3). Riyad Mahrez (Leicester to Manchester City) – £60m
City’s record signing had to settle for a bit-part role but still produced 24 goals and assists in all competitions.
He’s added plenty of silverware to his CV but could end this term feeling a little crestfallen.
2). Alisson (Roma to Liverpool) – £65m
Liverpool had to go out and buy a quality goalkeeper and that’s exactly what their money got.
The Brazilian kept a stunning 21 clean sheets and conceded just 22 goals in the Premier League. Could he do what Loris Karius couldn’t and help the Reds to Champions League ecstasy?
1). Kepa Arrizabalaga (Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea) – £72m
Chelsea’s record signing, the most expensive goalkeeper ever and one of the Premier League’s costly players.
He claimed 14 league clean sheets (only behind Alisson and Ederson) and could end up with a hugely successful debut season. But will forever be remembered for that shocking substitution refusal and defying Maurizio Sarri’s orders.
