Harry Redknapp is backing Jermain Defoe to score 40 goals for Rangers next season having quietly gone about his business as usual since joining.
Since joining Steven Gerrard’s side on an 18-month loan from Bournemouth back in January, Defoe has scored seven times in eight league starts, earning a place in the Rangers starting XI following the suspension of Alfredo Morelos.

Defoe has been typically efficient for Rangers
Redknapp knows first hand just how good the 36-year-old is, having managed him at three separate clubs: West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham.
“Of course, he could score 40 goals next season,” said Redknapp to the Evening Times. “Without a doubt. Jermain will always score goals.

“He has such amazing movement and he is an amazing finisher. Given the chance he will stick them away and I’d expect him to do that next season.
The former England forward is a proven scorer and is the seventh highest in Premier League history with 162 goals in 496 appearances.

He also holds the record for most top flight goals as a substitute with 22, and Redknapp believes Defoe still has a number of years left in him at the top level.
“He will play for another two seasons yet given he is in such good shape,” he continued.
“Jermain looks after himself so well. He lives right, he’s not a drinker, he’s totally dedicated.
