I must admit, I’ve thought about how I’d introduce the team if they win, but just thinking about it makes my stomach turn.
It would be the ultimate thing to do. I thought the greatest thing I’d ever do was the finale at the old White Hart Lane. Then being asked to do to the opening of the new stadium was incredible but – say we did actually win – nothing would top being able to introduce Tottenham as Champions League winners.
It would just be ridiculous.

The build-up has been so much fun – when you see the match programme with the words ‘Champions League final’ – it is incredible.
Overall, I’d say there is just real excitement. It’s like when we were in with a chance of winning the title – people dare not mention its name because there’s actually a chance where we could do something.
I’m travelling to Madrid on a plane with Ledley King, Gary Mabbutt and Ossie Ardiles.

When I first started in the job, talking to legends was one thing I couldn’t get over – these were my childhood heroes – and it took a long time to get used to speaking to Pat Jennings and the like on a regular basis.
I never take it for granted despite them adding me to their WhatsApp group. I still find it all quite amusing.
I actually really want to watch the game with my son, Joe, because that’s what it’s about for me – I always watched Spurs with my dad and the baton gets handed over and I love that.
Unfortunately he won’t be coming with me for this one, but he was brilliant about me going.
And anyway, I told him there will be other chances like when we get there next year and the year after!
Seriously, though, to get what it means to Spurs fans you just have to ask them. I speak to people who are going to Madrid by any means necessary. They are flying to Barcelona and hiring a camper van. It’s like a pilgrimage – they just feel they have to be there. It’s amazing.

When that last goal went in against Ajax I just lost my s*** and went absolutely crazy. I thought ‘I’m going to cry’ and then I tried to calm down, telling myself that it’s a game of football, but the amount of people I’ve spoken to since also said they were almost in tears and didn’t know why either.
There’s something deep rooted inside that took in the magnitude of what has just happened and I think if we win, what we’d hear from the stand wouldn’t be cheers, there would just be open weeping. Crazy.

At one of the two test events Spurs had ahead of the opening of their new ground, Paul spoke to a very 'Special' guest...
When I was at the Legends game, I got talking to Jose Mourinho, who was with Inter, in the tunnel.
This was before we knocked Man City out of the Champions League.
He said: “I think you’ll beat [City] and I think you have a great chance to win the Champions League.”
I didn’t quite believe him, but he was being serious, saying he saw parallels with Porto when they won it in 2004.
He explained that during that 2003/04 season, they moved into a new stadium and said once fans got on board with the chairman and realised what he and the board were doing for them, that feeling of love transmitted to the players – the players felt it, then he got it from the players and it was this amazing feeling.
He said: “I am sure that move inspired us to win the Champions League and I think the same thing could happen to you.”
Amazing, I could have hugged him.
