It didn’t take Raheem Sterling long to understand the heights Jadon Sancho could reach.
During a training match at Manchester City three years ago, Sterling was tasked with trying to stop the talented teenager, then part of City’s academy.
But Sancho proved to be a real handful.

“The first day I’d seen him training with us, I was really happy to see such a talent,” Sterling told Sport360.
“I always knew he’d become the player he has, for sure. From minute one.
“I was playing right-back one day in pre-season training and he spun me and I nearly did my back in.â€

Sancho made the decision to leave City in 2017, joining Borussia Dortmund for £8million, though the pair are now England team-mates.
And it was Sterling the 18-year-old replaced when he made his international debut against Croatia in October.

He is back in the England squad again as the Three Lions take on the Czech Republic on March 22 and Montenegro three days later – the same day Sancho will turn 19.
This season he has scored eight Bundesliga goals and created 12, with his form linking him to City’s rivals Manchester United where he has been talked about as a £80m summer signing.

Dortmund have since claimed their young star is going nowhere, but it is definitely a sign his career is heading in the right direction and England boss Gareth Southgate believes Sancho has benefited from moving abroad.

“I think it’s positive,” he told talkSPORT. “I’ve looked at young players coming to England before and seen how quickly they’ve matured because they’ve had to fend for themselves and learn the language.
“There’s a different football culture to adapt to. I don’t see any negative to players going abroad.
“Jadon took a very brave decision at a young age and he’s benefited but not everybody has.â€
