On their run to the Champions League final, Tottenham Hotspur have had several heroes.
Lucas Moura’s hat-trick against Ajax and equaliser against Barcelona make him one of the biggest, Fernando Llorente scored their vital goal against Manchester City, while Jan Vertonghen was majestic in the triumph over Borussia Dortmund, and Christian Eriksen saved Spurs against Inter Milan.
Their biggest hero, though, doesn’t even play for the club.
The final whistle had gone at the Camp Nou on December 11 with Tottenham earning a draw against Barcelona – but the north Londoners still weren’t through.
PSV Eindhoven were away at Inter Milan with nothing to play for, knocked out of the reckoning by Mauricio Pochettino’s men in November.
The Dutch side weren’t about to roll over and have their tummies tickled, mind you.

PSV were playing for pride and were holding the Italians to a 1-1 draw – the exact result Tottenham needed to go through – but in the last minute of stoppage time the ball fell to Inter striker Mauro Icardi in the penalty area.
Nick Viergever, once of Ajax, wasn’t about to let him score though, lunging into a perfectly timed challenge and shutting out the Argentine who was ready to roll the ball home.
Without his intervention Spurs would have been out of the Champions League in the group stage, erasing this incredible run from the history books.
